    Dear All,

I have been looking at getting an opinion on the VAT status of my 1986 Nauticat. The position is slightly more complicated than normal as Finland joined the EU after boats were deemed to be VAT paid.

I have all the original documents from Nauticat and all subsequent owners, but they are in a mixture of Danish and Finnish.

Attached are the rules the RYA have issued which I think is useful for all, considering we have many older Nauticats in the Association.

Does anyone have experience of any issues or have gone through this process before and can add to our understanding ?

By the way the RYA legal team have been very helpful on this. They have given me an initial opinion, but have offered to liaise with HMRC Pleasure Craft unit of expertise if necessary.

    rgds,

    Richard.

The RYA notification does not mention the T2L form which people sailing in Portugal use to deem their boats VAT paid. It was the subject of an article published in the RYA magazine about a year ago. This form might be a aolution to the problem.

    Hi Sally,

I attended a Cruising Association talk on this topic, and then went and looked at how to apply for such a thing. It looks incredibly complicated to do, but very official looking when received. I wonder if anyone has attempted such a thing or knows of a simple guide to doing so ?

    Rgds

    Richard.
