Ian Staples (Action Penguin) posts the following message:

We have in mast roller reefing on Action Penguin with, effectively, a new mainsail. I would much prefer slab reefing but to make that change would require a new mast, rigging (our rigging is one year old). Would anyone would be interested in a swop?

Hopefully my hang up with in-mast mainsail reefing. Changing the mast, boom, rigging is a huge cost so with the guidance of our sail maker (Peter Sanders – great sails, great guy) and a chum of his, Peter Whatley, whose recently arrived in Horta we’ve tightened up the in-mast roller fuller to give less play and moved how far the outhaul block can travel down the boom to half way along the boom. Net result is a horizontal pull on the mainsail clew and a much easier mode of action. I would move prefer single line slab reefing but these changes may make a significant difference.

Bow roller. We have one bow roller on our Nauticat 39 and I would like to install a second. Does anyone know a source of bow rollers for the Nauticat? Action Penguin, Ian Staples

Sorry the original text didn’t make sense. Here it is revised. Hopefully my hang up with in-mast mainsail reefing is resolved, especially as changing the mast, boom, rigging is a huge cost. I’ve been helped with the guidance of our sail maker (Peter Sanders – great sails, great guy) and a chum of his, Peter Whatley, whose recently arrived in Horta we’ve tightened up the in-mast roller fuller to give less play and moved how far the outhaul block can travel down the boom to half way along the boom. Net result is a horizontal pull on the mainsail clew and a much easier mode of action. I would move prefer single line slab reefing but these changes may make a significant difference.
