Engine Hatches – 1978 NC33

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me the construction of the engine hatches? Mine is a 1978 NC33. I want to make the port hatch smaller – can I simply saw through it? I am hoping it is just a sandwich full of foam or something but want to avoid surprises – particularly metal ones that could wreck a saw!

Lady Of Harty is a 1978 33, hull No. 570. The first picture shows the metal sheet that was on the bottom of the hatch and the yellow filling – a kind of crumbly but solidish fibreglass type material. The second picture is what was left after removal.
