Hello everyone; I currently live near Winchester so I`m quite near the South coast. My wife and I are looking to buy a Nauticat with a view to long term liveaboard overseas. We think a Nauticat 38 or 331 would suit us, but have never sailed in one! I have tried to find a Charter company that we could use to gain some hands-on experience but have been unsucessful.
Question: Do any Nauticat owners (any model – 38/331 or whatever; I assume the handling principles will be similar) who are based on the South coast area fancy taking my wife and I out on the water for a day (or so)?
We are both house trained, polite and respectful and we can both make great brews 🙂 We have some sailing experience (RYA Day Skipper/Comp Crew) so would hopefully not be too much of a burden and could actually help if required.
Essentially, we are looking to try before we buy without going through a Broker (yet) and are in need of advice and guidance… Discuss?? 🙂 🙂
Thanks

Thanks

There are more 331’s of all ages in the Solent area than any other. The Forums are an innovation for the Association and uptake of its use has been slower than hoped for.
I will promulgate your request in my next edition of e-news which reaches the whole membership.

Dawn and I have been out of the country for a while; many thanks for your continued support and effort. We are hoping to meet a new friend soon in the Poole Yacht Club and with luck (and perseverance) we hope to establish contact with likeminded Nauticat owners.
I will be sailing across to Cowes on the weekend 29 Jun – 01 Jul 12… I will have my eyes peeled for my ideal Motor Sailer 🙂 🙂
We are keeping the dream alive!!!!!

I assume you have already contacted Clive Stratton who has been the UK person selling Nauticats for a very long time, new and brokerage – http://www.strattonmarine.com/ . He is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and does not do a hard sell because he knows people need to take their time. When I was looking at buying a secondhand Nauticat via him the owner was away for a period. I asked for a test sail of an identical boat and within days Clive had fixed it up for me. I in turn am on Clive’s list of people who will do test sails – unfortunately for you I have a 321.
I appreciate you are looking for a longer session on a 331 but you never know….
Hope you are successful

Many thanks for the contact; I dont think I have been in touch with Clive, but I will certainly have a look at your link. Dawn and I are still in the early (ish) stages of buying a used Nauticat; we think a 38 would be ideal for us, having looked around John Claisses` excellent example but we really do have open minds with regard to model/length etc.
With the positive advice and help we have been getting so far from Nauticat owners I dont think it will take us too long to come to a final decision then take the plunge (metaphorically speaking!!).
Thanks again and happy sailing.
