Has anyone installed a centre cleat on a 33? It would be very helpful for positioning springs but it is difficult to know where to place a cleat so that it is not in the way. The side deck is too narrow here. Could a cleat be positioned on the toe rail or would this interfere with the hull-deck joint? Any advice gratefully received, thank you.
My 41 year old 33 has a fitting for sea legs amidships, a built in hole through each toe rail for pinning the legs to the boat. When I need a midships cleating, such as when coming alongside single handed, I rig a loop from outboard the hole to the bow and stern posts to lasso a bollard or cleat ashore. Not very satisfactory and dangerous if carrying too much speed when she comes up tight!
