I have two foot controls by the windlass, these are air pressure switches, the “down” is losing air pressure the pipe for this disappears into the boat structure to re-appear by the windlass control box in the engine space. I suspect the fault is in the narrow gauge polythene tube  but as I am unable to trace this i’m not sure what to do. Has any one any ideas please?

Are you sure the problem is not at the footswitch end, either the switch itself or the connection of the tube onto the switch?
I had a problem with air leakage at the connection onto the switch where the tube had hardened. I cured it by cutting off the final inch or so of tube and putting the ‘fresh’ end onto the switch. It solved my problem.

Have you checked the tube connection at the control box end…
Otherwise if the problem really is in the run of tube back to the control box then it is likely to have been damaged at some point maybe where other work has been done in the boat?

Steve, thanks for your comments, I have actually tried cutting the end of the tube by the switch, but not at the control box, I guess I will have to buy a new switch in order to eliminate the possibility of a fault there. But if the tube is damaged somewhere in the run then it is going to be a major job routing in a new tube.

    Regards John
