I have found a leak at the top of the rudder stock above the grease nipple.the boat is out of t he water at the moment,I wonder if tightening up the two large nuts on the rudder stock would cure the problem or should I have the joint re packed

Have you seen my post under Technical, Rudder stock maintenance, which covers the subject of bearings in the rudder stock?
As far as I am concerned the bearing needs greasing up when there is a gentle drip type leak. For me this tends to last all season until it starts again. As a result I grease up the nipple every season.
Thank you
It is just a gentle drip but quite a lot of water accumulates over a few days.
From what you have said I will tighten the nut a little and regressed the nipple
Thanks
