I just did that myself last month on the aft station wheel on my 1989 N33 for the same reason. The cap pries straight off. To remove the wheel, remove the cap, remove the large center bolt, then remove the wheel from the hub. A 2-legged gear hub puller/ removal tool made quick work of it. (A 3-legged puller was too difficult to position correctly because of the spokes on the wheel).
